Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence breastfeeding newborns at PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta hospital. This design research is cross sectional study and sampling technique using Purposive sampling. The samples in this study were post-partum mothers who were hospitalized in a hospital at Yogyakarta The results showed that 86.7% of mothers give their babies breast milk while in hospital. factor of knowledge mother, health education about lactation, maternal and infant health, family support and economic levels have an influence on breastfeeding while in hospital (P <0.005) Conclusions from this study health educations are the dominant factor in influencing mothers to give breast milk to their babies (P = 0.000). Suggestions in this study are nurses improve health education on maternal postpartum about lactation management.
